Please join us this Wednesday, August 4th, 6:45 PM sharp at the X mark for a ceremony to honor Joan Bray Holcomb.

This is a ceremony from the early naval history when a ship’s bell was used to signal various evolutions of the daily routine.  Two bells marked the end of the workday and offered the crew a chance to relax and reflect before taps.

On Wednesday, we will strike the bell two times to mark the end of Joan’s life here on earth and so that she can be at peace.  After the bell strikes, we will have a moment of silence in lieu of taps and then flowers will be thrown into the lake as a tribute (all are welcome to throw flowers).

Thank you in advance for your help and respect!

It is with great sadness that I inform you of the sudden passing of Joan Holcomb.  She was Dean’s wife, a long time member of the sailing community and past commodore of Lake Lanier Sailing Club.

The board of AISC has decided to cancel tonight’s racing in honor of Joan.  We know that Joan would want us to continue racing, just not tonight.  Thank you for respecting this decision and please keep Dean on your thoughts and prayers through this very difficult time.

Thanks to everyone who joined in at the mid season awards party, it was a blast.  Hope everyone is looking forward to the second half, let's get some breeze.  Yesterday was beautiful on the lake.

We need someone to sign up for RC for the race on 07/07.  If you did it in the first half it doesn't mean you can't do it again.  Please use the sign-up on line or email me if you can help out.

First Series complete!

The first half is complete and lots of great competition took place.

Thanks to Tom Sawchuk for running a great race last night despite a difficult shifty breeze to set up a start line.

The Awards will be presented this coming Wednesday (6/23) @ 7:30 PM at the LLSC clubhouse.  Please come by to catch a meal and a beverage.

The wind gods didn't smile on Lake Lanier last night.  Frank Vandall and the crews from 'Bad Influence' and 'Strega' did their best to get a race off but it wasn't there.

John McCarthy did a fine job with the post 'race' food so the trip wasn't a waste.

Better luck next week,

Sean

27 May 2010

Another race in the books thanks to RC moving to 'A' mark and getting a short course in.  Good Job Linda Webster and Jeff Elam.  I would also like to Pat Funk and Penny Chinik for an excellent meal at LLSC.  We do have a couple of meal dates open as well as some RC spots so don't be shy about signing up.

Race 6 was held in beautiful conditions and a great job done by RC from Renegade and Hermes.  Thanks also to Gary Umberger and Frank Vandell for providing plenty of Hot Dogs for everyone at the post race party.  Let's hope the wind keeps up for the next four races.

Hope the wind shows,

Good Evening racers,

The results from race one have been updated to show a rating correction (didn't effect results) and we added the FT10 fleet as nearly one design.

I still need a food volunteer for this Wednesday, someone can be my hero this week.

Greetings racers,

RC will be using the Barefoot Sailing barge this evening.  We will have boards up to remind everyone what the fleet definitions are as well as the start sequence.  Please make sure you check in before the race.

I have made a minor change to the SI's to include 'T' as a valid mark for RC to use.  These new SI's are on the aiscracing.com site.

Please call me on the barge @ 404-906-1418 if there is any question BEFORE we start the first sequence.

The Dogwood PRO Susan Reddaway (who you should thank when you see her) and Edith Collins have reviewed and updated the Dogwood NOR and SI's.  The new documents are available from the links on the right side of the screen.  Please be sure to come to the party Friday evening at the Pizza Pub in Tannery Row to see the fleet splits and participate in the skippers meeting.

Since this is also the kickoff for Wednesday night 2010, we should have a nearly complete list of competitors signed up so you can see how your fleet will play out this summer.  Registration runs from 18:00 to 19:30 and Skippers meeting is at 20:00.

The Saturday course and start times for the Cruising fleet will be determined before the skippers meeting.  Sunday's cruising course will be determined an posted by 8PM on Saturday night.

See you there.

18 Mar 2010

After much discussion in our final board meeting before the Dogwood we have made one final change to the Spin fleets.  The breakdown is as follows:

Low Spin PHRF 72 - 120
Mid Spin PHRF 121 - 158
Mid-High Spin PHRF 159-171
High Spin PHRF > 171

I will post new SI's tomorrow with the fleet numbers and start sequence.

Dogwood Saturday Entertainment

As Dogwood draws near I would like to remind everyone that registrations for membership must be postmarked by March 20 to avoid the late fee.  On Friday night we will be determining fleet splits for the Dogwood and confirming the final fleet splits for Wednesday night.  See y'all on Friday.

12 Mar 2010

An update to the Wednesday SI's has been posted.  The Spin fleets have been re-arranged to now include three fleets of roughly 50 point spreads per fleet.  The fleets are as follows:

  • Spin PHRF up to 120 (low boat is 72)
  • Spin PHRF 121-171
  • Spin PHRF 172 +
Please download the SI's located on the right side of the screen or here: 2010 SI's Rev 2

See you all at the Dogwood / Wednesday sign-up party on 3/26

Hello Sailors, it's AISC time again.  The lake is up and the weather should be getting warmer.  We are four weeks from the Dogwood and Wednesday night kickoff party.  We have several new features this year:

  • We are discounting membership for new members and those who haven't raced since 2007.  The normal membership price (Dogwood and Wednesday Night racing) is $145.  New and returning racers will get it all for $75.  For those who can only do Dogwood the normal $65 price will be discounted to $45.
  • We are creating a Performance Cruiser fleet to allow those who have shown keen interest in racing their cruising boats to join in on the AISC fun.  This fleet will be given a course that is predominately reaching and will keep them out of the fray from the other fleets.
  • We are starting the Cruising fleet first @ 6:55PM and then the Non-Spin fleets @ 7PM.  This will help those boats get in to participate in the post race festivities.

Please check the links on the right side of the page to download the membership application, the SI's and NOR's.

Don't forget to fill out the Dogwood application with your food and party orders as well as your club membership application.  These need to be in by March 19 to avoid the late fee's.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.  Please tell all your friends that haven't raced in awhile (or never) that this is the year to join in.

This just in from one of our Wednesday racers who is based at Aqualand:

"New Yahoo group for slip renters at Aqualand Marina This group will allow all slip owners to share observations and ideas with each other via email, point out boats in trouble, let others know about open dock parties, share tips on how to maintain our boats, where to go or avoid on the lake, racing or cruising information, boat stuff you want to buy or sell, etc. The group is free for all Aqualand slip renters. To join it simply send an email to AqualandMarina-subscribe@yahoogroups.com. In the email, state your name, boat type and size and dock letters so we know about where you are. You are free to share anything else you want as well but those items are mandatory. Enrollment is automatic, easy and free but accounts which do not contain that information will be deleted. This is a volunteer effort with no budget so please copy this to other clubs and groups you know about."

I will be posting last nights scores as soon as I receive them.

Good Morning Racers.  I have just added a new document to the site to help remind RC folks what to bring on RC night.  I realize most people that have done it before don't need this but it can't hurt.  Please be sure to let me know if I'm missing anything or am otherwise erroneous.  The link is one the lower right on the home screen.

On the good news front, we now only need a primary RC for the last race and an LLSC chef for week 8.  Please step up and help us out.

Sean

23 July 2009

Race 3 scores are up.  We are still looking for primary RC's for race 8 and 10.  If you are ready and able Please consider signing up for RC on one of those races.

Thanks to Rob Whitley, Greg Bell and Phil Eastman for yesterday's RC work.

23 July 2009

From an anonymous source comes the idea for a 'quote of the year'.  If you hear a noteworthy quote this year on the race course please let us know but the initial quote is a classic.

'Your not hot enough to be useless'.

I'll be adding a quote of the year page to the site so we can track the progress of our navel linguists.

Results should be available by later in the day.

17 July 2009

I recieved a question from the comment page regarding how we calculate the distance between marks.  Frank Atkinson provided me with the Excel spreadsheet and I have loaded it on the site under the results page.  The file is also available here Distance Calculator.  You may need to enable macros on the spreadsheet when you open it.

Sean

16 July 2009

Race 2 scores are up.  There wasn't much breeze but RC managed to move to A mark and get one in.  Please note we need primary RC's for race 8 and 10 still.  If you are ready and able Please consider signing up for RC on one of those races.

15 July 2009

It's race day again sailors.  Tonight we can hope the Bill Gilsdorf and Gary Umberger can pull of a similar miracle to last week and find wind where the weatherman couldn't.  You may want to re-check your Nav lights since we could be out there late if the wind doesn't cooperate.

See you on the water

p.s.

We may need to rename USA-125 to 'Just Add Wind' now.

10 July 2009

Race results are in from Wednesday Night.  What a night it was, it surpassed expectations by a staggering amount.  Results are on the Results tab or here:  Race 2-1

08 July 2009

Well it's race day one for the second half.  Let's hope we have some breeze tonight.  Robin Terrell and Warren Doyle's crew will be doing RC so I assume they know the number for the wind Gods.

Gary Umberger has been kind enough to provide the food at LLSC tonight so be sure to thank him if you stop by for a dinner after the racing.  Also please note there are quite a few dates still available following tonight so I hope everyone who enjoys the post race meal pitch in.

See you tonight....

01 July 2009

Happy July fellow racers.  I just wanted to remind everyone who recieved awards for the first half that additional glasses can be purchased (show your crew some love) from Regatta Outfitters.  They are on the web at RegattaOutfitters.com or at phone number 888-550-9010.  Ask for Ian.

Hope we continue to have this incredible weather next week when the second half kicks off.  I'm getting ready to go to the lake and play so see you all on the water.
