Thanks to Chris Webster and Tedd Meinersman and crew(s) for the good work on RC last night.
Thanks to Commodore Jim Kingery and Manning for providing food even though they couldn't race. Let's keep this food thing going by signing up if you haven't done so already.
Results are posted thanks to the quick work of Frank Atkinson.
Thanks to Alex, the "After All" crew and Nancy for doing RC last night. Alex, the boat is awesome as an RC platform. It proved to be a beautiful night for sailing. Thanks to Gary Umberger for cooking at the club on short notice.
Results are posted. Thanks Frank for the always great work on the results.
Due to floor resurfacing at the LLSC clubhouse, there will be no dinner tomorrow. Expect to see people gathering outside the clubhouse to discuss how hungry they are. Sorry for the short notice but I just learned of this issue today.
There has been a minor change to the SI's regarding the fleet 4/5 split point. We have changed the max number for fleet 4 to 175 and the lowest number for fleet 5 to 176.
Thanks to the wind and RC for a great evening last night. Special thanks to Nancy Martin and Tammy Duran for doing most of the work on food since my fleet was on the course too long to get it started on time.
If the wind will cooperate like that all rear we'll be in great shape.
Please sign up for Food / RC if you haven't already. Scores will be posted ASAP.
We are almost ready for the start of the 2012 Gill Wednesday Night Series.
Thanks go out to Gill for returning as out title sponsor for the 2012 Gill Wednesday Night Series. Gill's sponsorship helps AISC afford the great parties and awards we are able to provide.
Due to the changing dynamic of out fleet population, we have juggled the fleet splits for 2012. The SI's spell it all out. If you haven't paid yet, please bring you app and payment to the first race and Jim Kingery on 'Sotally Tober' or myself on 'Shaka' can take if for you. Please try to do it off the water since keeping such documents on the boat isn't wise.
Please sign up for RC and Food on the site. I'm cooking this Wednesday (with Tammy Duran's help) so come by and grab some food after the race.
Thanks to West Marine and all of our great sponsors for a terrific Dogwood Regatta.
Susan Reddaway and her team ran four excellent races in what was more like May or June conditions and the courses were extremely fair and challenging. We tried a new concept for the Cruiser fleet and everyone seemed pleased.
Jim Kingery ran the festivities beautifully and I wish I didn't have to miss the party due to a family illness.
Congrats to Nick Cumbie for being the first to sign up for RC and Food. We are less than a week to the Dogwood Regatta and Wednesday Night racing will follow soon thereafter. Please sign up for the RC and Food date of your choice so you can get a date that works with your schedule.
We are closing in on a new season of AISC racing. Please be sure to fill out your Membership app and Dogwood Registration and have it postmarked by March 23 to avoid a late fee.
I received an email from an experienced sailor who would be new to the lake who is looking for crewing opportunities. It goes as follows:
I am considering getting back into sailing. I recently retired and have been looking for some active fun. I am an experienced sailor. I owned and raced J-24s on Wilson Lake in Florence, Alabama for 15 years. I also crewed on a North American 40 on Lake Michigan out of Chicago for 5 years and even sailed the Mack once. I have also chartered in the Virgins and out of Mt. Martin. All that was 20 years ago. I was wondering if your club had any type of mentor program for "old sailors" to help us get back into it. I don't want to get into "wet boat" racing but I do enjoy racing and cruising. Any suggestions? Chris
I told Chris I would not paste his email/phone number on the site but would give his contact info to interested parties. If you would like to reach out to Chris let me know.
I'm looking forward to a great Dogwood and Wednesday night series and I hope we increase our participation further from last year.
Great party thanks to the work of Commodore Jim Kingery and his lovely wife Manning. Dale at Fish Tales put a terrific venue together with great food. Every award was collected but one and I'll deliver it to the deserving party ASAP.
We weren't smart enough to find new officers so Jim, Dan and I will be back again next year. John McCarthy has agreed to take on the food signup role so I will better concentrate on RC and other fleet duties.
I have promised Dan I would write some scoring app to make the scoring faster and more efficient.
I forgot to mention at the party but the Gill Sale is on November 12.
The LLSC post series start on 9/21 so come out and continue to enjoy daylight savings time.

Thanks to Jeff Freeman and crews from Renegade and Sotally Tober for RC.
Thanks to Nick Cumbie for the food at LLSC.
Scores are posted pending any corrections. Year overall being prepared.
Remember the party at FishTales on 9/14.

Thanks to Joey Duran and Roger Counihan for great work on RC.
Finish sheet posted, results to follow soon.
Thanks to Tony Stanley, Reid Collins, Ben Harbin, Tammy Duran and Nancy for all assisting in getting a meal done last night.
Thanks to Robin Terrell and crew for a tremendous job of geting a race off when all seemed lost. Thanks also for Robin getting the score sheets in in record time to Dan and myself. I'll have the finish sheets posted where the race results ultimately will end up.
Thanks also to Ed, Liz, Matt and Bethanie from 'Sweet as Bro' for the dinner at LLSC. I gave Ed very little lead time but they came thru.
Results of Race 17 are posted. Several Sailors have noted that the scores are not calculating correctly regarding RC. The RC score should be the average of the races (less throw outs). The scorer knows this but it takes extra time to manually work that in with he current scoring program. I am working on an automated scoring app for next season that will make the scoring quicker and easier. Dan will have the scores posted with the proper RC values when the finals are calculated for the series.
Thanks to Jim and Manning Kingery for some great BBQ at the club Wednesday. The Commodore knows how to do it right.
Thanks to Gary Umberger, David Reddaway and Chris Hoffman for doing RC with me also. I hope everyone appreciated Gary's sound device.
I took some videos (sorry, wide angle action cam not the best for a start line). Also the boat was moving so the line is all over the place. I set the bar really low for someone to do a better video soon.
Thanks to Dean Holcomb and Mike Krantz for doing RC today.
The first half results have been changed (only the overall at this point) to show the results of a PHRF certificate redress hearing. We will try to get all the individual race files updated ASAP.
Thanks to Linda Webster and Tedd Meinersman for a great race last night. Our scorer is out of country till Saturday so I have posted the finish sheets on the results page.
I'll post a new message when the results are complete.
The Lanier PHRF site has been added to the links on the right side of the site under '
Wednesday Nights 2011'. Please check to see you have a current PHRF certificate to be scored in the second half series.
The awards party at LLSC will start @ 18:30 this Wednesday (6/22). Check the results for your award status. Top three is a fleet and top spot in one design will receive an award.
It's time for the last race of half one. The weather could be iffy so stay tuned to channel 68 for any announcements related to weather. Robin Terrell and myself will be doing RC onboard 'Layla'.
Don't forget the awards party the following wednesday at the LLSC club house. Check back for further announcements.
Another great job by RC to find wind from nowhere, thanks Mike / John. Thanks also to Steve Sudderth for providing food at Frank's houseboat while the juniors we at the club.
Please sign up for RC and/or food in half two. Lots of openings are still there.
Wow was I wrong last night. I thought there was no way a race was going to happen but Ken Blankenship and Steve Sudderth managed to get one in. Great job guys.
Thanks also to Mike Stewart for providing food for the LLSC diners last evening.
We are good for RC for the rest of half one but will need someone to do food for the first half finale.
Looks like another great sailing night awaits us tomorrow. Thanks to Scott Baste and Ben Harbin from the Liberty crew we will have food tomorrow night. I still have many openings for the remainder of the year so please help out and sign up.
Hello AISC sailors. The results from last wednesday are being finished but I have posted the finish sheets under the Most Recent Race link on the right.
Thanks to John McCarthy for doing RC and Mike MacLeod for the LLSC food. I need people for this coming race for both RC and food. Please sign up before I have to start drafting people.
Results are up. Also there are changes to the race 2 results.
Thanks to Nick Cumbie and Jim Kingery and their crew for doing RC. Thanks also to Joey Duran for the food at LLSC. Sorry for the delay but the scorer was away on business and needed some time to git-r-done.
Tom Sawchuk and the Breakaway crew are currently signed up for RC on this Wednesday. Tom would like to find another boat to do RC if possible. Jim Kingery is supplying his boat and some crew for RC so you don't need a boat to help. Please use the RC signup option or call me if you are interested.
Occasionally, always, often, sometimes I hate this Fleet Captain role. It's the business of being responsible that gets me. John McCarthy and I had to weigh the pros and cons of racing last night and we went with caution. Probably 60% of the input we got from the skippers was in favor of the decision but it would have been easier if someone else was making the call. Maybe so few were opposed because they know the job is always available.
Ironically both John and I went out on two different boats so we could make sure people didn't miss the radio call or the message I got out to Aqualand via telephone. I only saw one boat that thought racing was on. 'Flying Boat' was ready to play. I indicated to Tom that there was no race but couldn't understand what he was saying back to me. Maybe that's just as well.
Apparently the weather was interesting at Hartsfield around race time last night. A friend of mine told me he was on a 757 trying to land and they aborted three landings due to 40 knot cross winds before finally setting down.
John McCarthy will be doing RC tonight and will be making any announcements via channel 69. The storms seem to be arriving after race time but we will make the go/no-go call close to race time.
Race or not, Fred McConnell is serving the LLSC food tonight. Fred is doing his despite not having a dog in the fight for the series. Great job Fred, thanks for helping out.
Whew (that was for Dan McGraw the scorer), the results are up. Please be patient as Dan has put a lot of effort into his new system and we continue to appreciate Frank Atkinson's prior work. Use the comment section or your telephone if you have issues / concerns.
I will be on the point at the LLSC clubhouse between 5 & 5:30 monitoring thunderstorm activity. For info monitor channel 69 or call my cell phone at (770) 402-5144. RC will be on my Pearson 34, BREEZE.
Mike Stewart
Results from Race 1 (temporary format) are posted under the results tab. It is becoming very clear how much work Frank Atkinson did for us as we move to the new scoring team. Thanks Frank for all of your great work the last few years.
Hello Racers. The results of Race 1 are being finalized as I type this. We expect future results to be up quickly but this one is delayed due to Charleston travel and a new process.
Please note the check-in sheets have been updated with some additions from race 1. If you have not paid yet please do so by tomorrow or your score for race 1 will not count.
What a beautiful evening for sailing last night was. Great job by Race Committee and the wind was better than forecasted.
The results may be delayed a few days due the the scored being in Charleston for Race Week. I'll get them up as soon as they are completed.
For those who took part in eating at the club last night, the entire meal came in at just about $100 so remember to sign up for your turn, with the other 19 meals you get for free it's a great deal. Thanks to Tammy Duran as well as Bruce Barrett and my lovely wife Nancy for helping while my fleet did lap 2.
Let's hope the weather is so cooperative for the entire season.
The Wednesday Night NOR ands SI's are now on the site. Please note the fleet splits are preliminary based on turnout of boats. The SI's will be updated immediately after the signup party on April 1.
There are updated links on the right side related to Dogwood and the AISC membership application.
There is a calendar now available (sub menu from the Home menu). This contains the races and other events for the 2011 season.
Additional web site updates will be coming shortly.
Please take the time to fill out your AISC membership application as well as a Dogwood application which is needed to know who is doing Dogwood and for food/party tickets.
Thanks to University Yacht Club for hosting (and re-hosting) the Lanier Cup. Thanks to Edith Collins and Susan Reddaway as well as all the additional RC folks for a great job.
I'm not going to name the skippers, tacticians or crew because I'd forget someone but it was a fabulous job by all.
Thanks to Greg Cash, Mike Barber and crew members for a fantastic job on RC last night. The weather was spectacular and we had wind. Thanks also to Tony Stanley and his crew for fantastic food last night.
Please join us this Wednesday, August 4th, 6:45 PM sharp at the X mark for a ceremony to honor Joan Bray Holcomb.
This is a ceremony from the early naval history when a ship’s bell was used to signal various evolutions of the daily routine. Two bells marked the end of the workday and offered the crew a chance to relax and reflect before taps.
On Wednesday, we will strike the bell two times to mark the end of Joan’s life here on earth and so that she can be at peace. After the bell strikes, we will have a moment of silence in lieu of taps and then flowers will be thrown into the lake as a tribute (all are welcome to throw flowers).
It is with great sadness that I inform you of the sudden passing of Joan Holcomb. She was Dean’s wife, a long time member of the sailing community and past commodore of Lake Lanier Sailing Club.
The board of AISC has decided to cancel tonight’s racing in honor of Joan. We know that Joan would want us to continue racing, just not tonight. Thank you for respecting this decision and please keep Dean on your thoughts and prayers through this very difficult time.
Thanks to Dean Holcomb and Matthew Widlansky for calling a great race last night. Results will be posted shortly. We have a food date that opened on 7/21 if someone would like to step up to feed the sailors @ LLSC. Thank you Scott Baste and crew for a great meal last night.
Thanks to everyone who joined in at the mid season awards party, it was a blast. Hope everyone is looking forward to the second half, let's get some breeze. Yesterday was beautiful on the lake.
We need someone to sign up for RC for the race on 07/07. If you did it in the first half it doesn't mean you can't do it again. Please use the sign-up on line or email me if you can help out.
The wind gods didn't smile on Lake Lanier last night. Frank Vandall and the crews from 'Bad Influence' and 'Strega' did their best to get a race off but it wasn't there.
John McCarthy did a fine job with the post 'race' food so the trip wasn't a waste.
Another race in the books thanks to RC moving to 'A' mark and getting a short course in. Good Job Linda Webster and Jeff Elam. I would also like to Pat Funk and Penny Chinik for an excellent meal at LLSC. We do have a couple of meal dates open as well as some RC spots so don't be shy about signing up.
Race 6 was held in beautiful conditions and a great job done by RC from Renegade and Hermes. Thanks also to Gary Umberger and Frank Vandell for providing plenty of Hot Dogs for everyone at the post race party. Let's hope the wind keeps up for the next four races.
Well it's my turn to cook and we have 96 burgers including 12 Turkey and 12 Veggie. We also have Potato salad and Greek Salad so if you are a regular eating at the club, don't miss this. The lovely Nancy and Debbie will be helping me serve and Tammy Duran (she's an Angel) is getting it started for us while were still racing.
Race results are up. Thanks to Jim Chambers and Paul Warner for getting a good race off. Next weeks results will be delayed since our scorer won't be available till the following weekend. Let's hope the wind continues cooperating.
Tammy and Joey Duran are my hero's this week. We will have food thanks to them. I have the 4/28 and 5/5 races coming up soon so I need some more help. Please come to the site and sign up so everyone can eat and be happy.
RC will be using the Barefoot Sailing barge this evening. We will have boards up to remind everyone what the fleet definitions are as well as the start sequence. Please make sure you check in before the race.
I have made a minor change to the SI's to include 'T' as a valid mark for RC to use. These new SI's are on the aiscracing.com site.
Please call me on the barge @ 404-906-1418 if there is any question BEFORE we start the first sequence.
The Dogwood Regatta is in the bag and it was exciting with plenty of races. Thanks to Susan Reddaway and the entire RC crew. Thanks also to West Marine, Hometown Spirits and all of the AISC officers. The results are posted on the results page. Kirk Jockell will have lots of pictures on saillanier.com.
The Dogwood PRO Susan Reddaway (who you should thank when you see her) and Edith Collins have reviewed and updated the Dogwood NOR and SI's. The new documents are available from the links on the right side of the screen. Please be sure to come to the party Friday evening at the Pizza Pub in Tannery Row to see the fleet splits and participate in the skippers meeting.
Since this is also the kickoff for Wednesday night 2010, we should have a nearly complete list of competitors signed up so you can see how your fleet will play out this summer. Registration runs from 18:00 to 19:30 and Skippers meeting is at 20:00.
The Saturday course and start times for the Cruising fleet will be determined before the skippers meeting. Sunday's cruising course will be determined an posted by 8PM on Saturday night.
As Dogwood draws near I would like to remind everyone that registrations for membership must be postmarked by March 20 to avoid the late fee. On Friday night we will be determining fleet splits for the Dogwood and confirming the final fleet splits for Wednesday night. See y'all on Friday.
An update to the Wednesday SI's has been posted. The Spin fleets have been re-arranged to now include three fleets of roughly 50 point spreads per fleet. The fleets are as follows:
Spin PHRF up to 120 (low boat is 72)
Spin PHRF 121-171
Spin PHRF 172 +
Please download the SI's located on the right side of the screen or here: 2010 SI's Rev 2
See you all at the Dogwood / Wednesday sign-up party on 3/26
Just an update. The Dogwood NOR incorrectly stated there were no throw outs. There will be a throw out if six races are completed. The new NOR is on the site link to the right.
Hello Sailors, it's AISC time again. The lake is up and the weather should be getting warmer. We are four weeks from the Dogwood and Wednesday night kickoff party. We have several new features this year:
We are discounting membership for new members and those who haven't raced since 2007. The normal membership price (Dogwood and Wednesday Night racing) is $145. New and returning racers will get it all for $75. For those who can only do Dogwood the normal $65 price will be discounted to $45.
We are creating a Performance Cruiser fleet to allow those who have shown keen interest in racing their cruising boats to join in on the AISC fun. This fleet will be given a course that is predominately reaching and will keep them out of the fray from the other fleets.
We are starting the Cruising fleet first @ 6:55PM and then the Non-Spin fleets @ 7PM. This will help those boats get in to participate in the post race festivities.
Please check the links on the right side of the page to download the membership application, the SI's and NOR's.
Don't forget to fill out the Dogwood application with your food and party orders as well as your club membership application. These need to be in by March 19 to avoid the late fee's.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions. Please tell all your friends that haven't raced in awhile (or never) that this is the year to join in.
